Opening of the most modern plant for the production of aluminum profiles by Montana Tech Components AG

Menziken, November 13, 2009 – Montana Tech Components AG opened the most modern production plant for aluminum profiles in Baia Mare in Romania. The plant was built to fulfill a long-term contract with EADS/Airbus Industries.

Montana Tech Components AG (MTC) inaugurated on November 11, 2009 together with its Romanian daughter company UAC Europe S.R.L a new production plant for aluminium profiles for the aerospace industry in Baia Mare/Dumbravita in the province Maramures in Romania.

A 5-year long-term contract with Airbus Industries built the basis for the construction of the plant by the MTC division Aerospace & Industrial Components. The contract is supposed to generate a yearly turnover of about EUR 25 million and secures the base load from 2010 on. The certification process by Airbus Industries is already partly finished. Also with Boeing the production of aluminium components may be set up.

The production with the 1st press started in May 2009. Currently already 3 presses are running and the 4th press will start in the beginning of 2010. The plant will have a yearly capacity of 2.000 tons at full use of capacity and holds a yearly turnover potential of about EUR 30 million.

The reason for the location was the wage costs which are 15% less than in Switzerland. Klaus Sernetz, CEO the Montana Tech Components AG: „To be able to compete with international market prices we had to transfer the production to a low cost country.“

The volume of the project amounts to EUR 30 million in total. In 2010 a cast house will be built on the factory premise and including this expansion the turnover shall be tripled over the next 3-4 years.
